PUR - PAC

ABOUT

The PUR - PAC project was heavily focused on systems and ensuring that cost savings and added value was apparent with the design.

This was achieved through a ‘bag-like’ wool insulation design that saved packing time (cost savings).

The box was also re-designed to be more sustainable (without tape).

SKETCHING & PROBLEM SOLVING

Initial ideation was performed (left upper corner) and since a bag idea was chosen, the details were explored in the bottom left corner to prove viability. The sketch above was aiming to explore measurements and ergonomics of a handle. Each of these sketches and more were instrumental in problem solving for this project.

THE SYSTEM

PURPAC SYSTEM-100.jpg

The system involves the manufacturer, Planet Protector (brand), the client (food supplier/packager) and the user. Each stage of the process needed value added or some improvement which can be seen with the green +’s in the above image. The current experience and proposed experience were also compared to ensure improvements were made.

MODEL MAKING

MODEL3-100.jpg

Model making was incredibly helpful to test ideas and viability as sketches are only 2D and CAD can be time consuming. The first image was a trial of an idea that failed, which proves the importance of model making.

MANUFACTURING

The manufacturing processes for both the cardboard carton and the bag are outlined in these diagrams. Manufacturing is important to consider especially with cost savings and adding value.
